ALL seven winners at the Dunston Harriers’ meeting at Ampton last Sunday were bred in Ireland with the shortest priced of them being Hawkhurst who was an even-money chance in the intermediate.

The eight-year-old Flemensfirth gelding brought up a quick double for the father and son team of Alan and Joe Hill which they had initiated in the preceding restricted with the year younger Gold Well mare Allie Beag. Zac Baker landed the nine-year-old and upwards conditions race on the Tracey Bailey-trained Broadway Symphony.

The first division of the three-mile open maiden went to the favourite Steeles Terrace who is trained by Andrew Pennock and was ridden by Evan David. Having his first start in a British point-to-point following four runs in Ireland, the six-year-old Craigsteel gelding was bred by Peter Byrne out of the Bluebird mare She’s So Beautiful.

Division two went the way of the Francesca Nimmo-trained Summer Sounds who was ridden by his part-owner James Jackson-Stops. Having his second start between the flags in Britain where he had placed form over fences and hurdles, the nine-year-old by Definite Article was bred by John Brophy out of the Be My Native mare Marble Sound, dam also of Felix Yonger (by Oscar) and My Valley (by Saddlers’ Hall).

The mixed open was won by Wardens Hill, while the PPORA club members conditions race for novice riders went to the 20/1 shot Finnegan’s Hollow.

Joe Dawson recorded a riding double on Sunday at Sheriff Hutton, his brace being completed in the men’s open on the 10-year-old Milan gelding One Conemara, one of five Irish-bred winners at this Yorkshire Area meeting.

Trainer Justin Landy saddled the final two winners on the seven-race card with Joe Wright landing the three-mile open maiden on the seven-year-old Craigsteel gelding Sir Lonica who has having his first start in a British point-to-point. Bred by the Keating sisters out of the Good Thyne mare Flashey Thyne, the bay ran three times between the flags here in 2016.

Landy’s double was completed in the two and a half-mile maiden for four, five and six-year-olds by the Lottie Crane-partnered Ballinahow Bill who too was making his British debut. The 2012 Dubai Destination gelding, who was third once over hurdles in 16 outings here on the track, was bred by Roger McLoughlin out of the Beneficial mare Rainbow Lilly.

The other Irish-bred winners during the afternoon were Maguires Bridge in the restricted and Global Power in the ladies’ open.
