IT was good to see that all races at Aghabullogue on Sunday had individual sponsors and that there was a best turned-out prize for each contest as well.

The local national school’s parents’ association sponsored one of the turn-out prizes and were rewarded in turn by huge numbers supporting their refreshment tent where soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee were on sale.

There was also a plethora of advertisements in the 68-page card although a couple of sentences on page 43 left one confused.

Here, there was reference to withdrawn horses and while nothing has changed since Christmas regarding deductions and prices, the decision of the board of Horse Racing Ireland to stop collecting the bookmakers’ levy at point-to-points meant that there was no one present from HRI to decide the price of a withdrawn horse had there been on, or to deal with any disputes and inquiries had they arisen.

We are told that the situation is under review.
