TWO of the three meetings due to be held in Britain last Sunday survived the weather with the Heythrop fixture, lost to frost, being rescheduled for tomorrow.

As the open maiden was divided three ways, there were eight races at Black Forest Lodge where Luke Harvey’s Porlock Bay (5/1) notched up his third success of the season in the men’s open. Again ridden by Darren Edwards, the 10-year-old Dr Massini gelding won from Full Trottle and Penmore Mill.

Four other Irish-breds won at this Silverton meeting including the restricted winner Master Tim (by Indian Danehill) and Agentleman who provided both legs of a training double for Robert Llewellyn. Landing division two of the maiden, Agentleman is a seven-year-old Trans Island gelding.

The division three winner was the Vinnie Roe eight-year-old Desert Roe and the drama-filled ladies open was won by the 11-year-old Beneficial gelding Imperial Circus.

The Bevin family recorded a double with Irish-breds at the Jedforest fixture at Friars Haugh. Rory Bevin landed the intermediate on the 11-year-old Milan gelding For A Change before claiming the restricted on the 1/3 favourite Dynamic Island (a six-year-old by Island House).

Harriett Bryce landed the Skinner’s ladies’ open on the nine-year-old Wareed gelding Damiens Dilemna while the men’s equivalent, sponsored by Gain Horse Feeds, went to the prolific Cave Hunter. Sent off the 2/5 favourite, the 10-year-old Court Cave gelding was ridden byTim Hamilton who is working with Joseph O’Brien.

Joanna Walton, who is based near Mallow with Damien Murphy and has ridden in a couple of point-to-points here this season, won the Border Clubs members’ race on the British-bred Molten Brown.

Lady riders have recorded 25 wins in Britain, where they are better catered for, while here, just six races have been won by ladies, half of them by Shauna Larkin.
