PATRICK Turley took the wraps off a potentially smart prospect at Loughanmore on Saturday when Hartur D’Arc (93++) took apart his opposition in what visually was a very impressive performance. The time backed that up, with the son of Diamond Boy clocking a time that was nine seconds quicker than any other race on the card.

Three of the four horses that chased him home were also making their debuts, so the depth of the form will become clear in time, but it is quite rare to see a maiden on good ground at this venue being won by such considerable intervals.

In the mares’ equivalent, Smiling Getaway (85+) brushed aside a previously placed rival on her debut, when powering clear off a steady gallop.

At Tattersalls, Marinero (113+) was another open performer to bely his advancing years this term by putting up big display on his seasonal re-appearance. He had been similarly impressive on his first start of last season at Ballingarry and wore down pointing debutant and former Grade 1 winner Brain Power close home.

Chasing Fire (91+) had his task made easier at the last to make a winning debut, but looks to be a horse with plenty of pace, whilst in contrast, So Ladylike (76+) thrived on the tough test that was set in a strongly-run mares’ race.

On the same afternoon at Curraghmore, Nick Rockett (92+) displayed a very likeable battling attitude to overcome a final-fence blunder and regain the lead on the run-in to win going away in a race where the first three home were covered by a length. He clearly stays well.

It was much easier for Kilbunny Pontic (85++) who was in a league of her own from some way out, while Samanntom (103) overcame what would not have been his preferred conditions to get the job done for the second time this season.
