THERE was a big Irish win in Munich on Sunday when Hotazhell landed the Group 1 Grosser Dallmayr Preis Bayerisches Zuchtrennen for trainer Jessica Harrington and jockey Shane Foley.

The four-year-old colt was winning for the first time since he defeated Delacroix by a nose in the 2024 Futurity Trophy at Doncaster, but he was overdue a success after running some excellent races in defeat.

Most recently the son of Too Darn Hot had finished a close third behind Purview in a Group 3 event at the Curragh on Irish Derby day, form which received a boost when the runner-up Trustyourinstinct won the Group 2 Curragh Cup last weekend.

Hotazhell was second favourite for the Munich race behind globetrotter Wimbledon Hawkeye, who was having his first run for trainer George Scott, having been recently purchased out of James Owen's yard by Bahrain outfit Victorious Forever.

Shane Foley set out to make all on Hotazhell but was closely pressed throughout by the Charlie Johnston-trained Timeforshowcasing, winner of the German 1000 Guineas earlier in the season.

The pair went on to fight out the finish, with just a nose between them at the line. Wimbledon Hawkeye finished well to take third.
