Grade 1 success for Irish
IRISH riders enjoyed plenty of success at last Saturday’s Virginia Gold Cup meeting at Great Meadow.
Jamie Bargary from Cork rode Keys Discount to win the feature race, a Grade 1 over timber, for trainer Jack Fisher. Bargary (31) rode several big winners in Britain for Nigel Twiston-Davies before moving to the US in 2021.
Conor Tierney (22) from Rathnew in Co Wicklow won the Grade 1 Commonwealth Cup (Sport of Kings Hurdle) on Little Trilby for trainer Ricky Hendriks.
It was Tierney’s first ride since breaking his collarbone and getting 36 stiches in his face following a fall five weeks earlier.
Northern Ireland riders Graham Watters and Stephen Mulqueen also rode winners on the card.
