EFFERKNOCK Fizz showcased Cian Collins’ talents with three big race wins, including in the Listed RYBO Handicap Hurdle at the Fairyhouse Easter Festival, and Collins is hoping his current stable star, Jazzy Matty, can provide him with back-to-back wins in the €100,000 contest today.

“I think he’s got a great chance,” Collins told The Irish Field. “He’s in great form. I’d just be a little bit worried that the ground could go too soft for him, but hopefully it’s not too deep. I think it could even be a better race than last year but, hopefully, he should be well able for it.”

Jazzy Matty is rated 125 over hurdles, compared to 135 over fences when he won the Grand Annual Chase (now rated 142). His previous hurdle wins came in the Fred Winter Hurdle and a maiden hurdle win over today’s course and distance. Collins is also sweet on the chances of course-and-distance winner Leah’s Contessa, who lines up in the 4.45 tomorrow. “She ran well enough the last day,” Collins said. “She made a couple of mistakes but the softer ground will help her and she could run a big race.”

Unbeaten combination

Another hoping for further success at the Easter Festival is Charlie Butler, who reunites with So Des Flos in the Fred Kenny Memorial Ladies National at 3.55 today.

Gordon Elliott’s charge dug deep for Butler 12 months ago, and provided the amateur with her first Irish success a few months earlier.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on him,” Butler said on Friday. “I know he hasn’t shown much over his last few runs but he’s in good form at home.

“I haven’t sat on him but I ride out for Gordon twice a week and the lads have said they’re happy with him. He loves it around there, he’s back on the same mark as last year and the rain has come, so I think he’ll be there or thereabouts.”
