1.22 Bermingham Cameras Novice Chase 2m 4f 55yd

Supersundae bumped into a proper graded horse in Workahead when second over what was probably an inadequate trip at Wexford three weeks ago. He’s bound to appreciate getting back up in distance and his mark of 140 is a pretty strong standard to bring to this level of race.

Sky Lord, rated 130 but in receipt of 6lb from the selection, isn’t out of the equation for the red-hot Henry de Bromhead team. However, he’s not a guaranteed stayer at this trip.

1.57 Jim Ryan Memorial Novice Chase 3m 1f

Despite an ordinary run in a much more competitive handicap chase than this at the Punchestown Festival when last seen, Raglan Road gets the vote to double his tally over fences for Henry de Bromhad. He’s rated 4lb inferior to main rival Yoradreamer, though he’s very much unexposed at the trip and has won on good to yielding ground already this year, so conditions wouldn’t be a concern.

It’s a slight question mark whether Yoradreamer will really relish summer ground, so any rain falling will help his cause. Emily Love takes a big step up in trip from the mares’ beginners’ chase she won at Tramore over just shy of two miles last weekend – and is in better company.

SELECTION: RAGLAN ROAD

2.32 K-Mech Mechanical Handicap Chase 2m 4f 55yd

A difficult contest in which a tentative vote goes to Ocastle Des Mottes, who is expected to improve a fair deal from his last start at Cork over Easter, when returning from 437 days off. A season earlier, he had finished second to the impressive Ballyburn in a beginners’ chase around here (smart handicapper Release The Beast third) and a mark of 127 doesn’t look impossible for him to be competitive off, if back to his old self and sharpening up his jumping. The trip should suit well.

He’s Gorgeous raced really disappointingly in the early stages of the Mayo National when 5/1 favourite 13 days ago. Blinkers now go on. Jalila Moriviere has plenty of weight but did run with real credit when second at the same meeting five weeks ago. Captain Conby missed a whopping 851 days prior to his two runs in recent weeks. There was a step in the right direction over two miles at Wexford last time, though, and another chunk of improvement would make this once highly promising sort a player off 123.

3.07 Congratulations Nicole Lockhead Anderson INHSC Ladies Handicap Hurdle 2m 3f

This looks a fair deal calmer than the Punchestown Festival handicap hurdle that Fairlander finished down the field in 40 days ago, and he must be a player on the evidence of his earlier form. After catching the eye in maiden hurdle company to a certain extent, he went close at Down Royal in mid-March and appears to enjoy these conditions. The trip looks fairly on the money too.

Maxine O’Sullivan is a real asset in these ladies’ races and her mount, the Tony Martin-trained Goin’, flashed promise the last twice on the flat in staying handicaps at Navan and Haydock. If he’s sharp enough for a handicap on just his fourth hurdles start, he could well be a threat off 95. Lord Ffrench, Mary’s Pride, Cock And Bull and the in-form Qaasid (promoted to first at Limerick last week) are others worth noting in an open contest.

SELECTION: FAIRLANDER

3.42 Lily & Wild Mares Maiden Hurdle 2m 5f 139yd

This represents a massive drop in class for Some Pretender, having finished mid-field (admittedly well beaten) in the Grade 3 mares’ bumper won by Even Tho at the Punchestown Festival. She’s won a bumper and been third three times in listed bumper company. Provided she takes well to obstacles, she’s the standout candidate.

Working Away hasn’t been seen since November when third (beaten 11 lengths) by the 118-rated Barra Rua in a Tramore maiden hurdle. The point-to-point winner remains largely unexposed.

Le Questionnaire has strung two decent runs together back-to-back, running better for the step up in trip last time. Another bit of progress for trying this trip would put him bang there in this relatively low-key maiden hurdle. He’s rated 106, hails from a top team and will be sharp from his recent outings.

Will Wilde would be a massive player on his old form, but he did pull up on his recent return from 501 days off. Jerry From Kerry takes a big jump up in trip but will be involved if staying, while Captain Hanley is another with his stamina to prove (and he unseated his rider in dramatic fashion early at Kilbeggan last weekend when the saddle had slipped).

4.52 TRM Supporting Every Stride Of The Journey Handicap Hurdle 2m 7f 116yd

While safely held behind the wide-margin winner, Falcon Eight was in the process of staying on to possibly challenge for the minor money when clipping a heel and unseating his rider after the final flight in a much more competitive Punchestown Festival handicap hurdle last time. He’s no spring chicken at 11, but this strong stayer will relish stepping up in trip and his flat form gives encouragement that he could have a hurdles race in him off 112.

Beyond Your Dreams hasn’t made her presence felt in a couple of starts this year, but she had been given a good break before then and this time of year might be a better point to judge her. Last year’s Fred Winter ninth (beaten 10 lengths) has blinkers added now and tries the longest trip she’s ever faced. Morell River comes here in good heart and could have more to offer.

Al Arrivee is the clear standard setter in this for the Mullins team. Fourth behind stablemate Even Tho in a Grade 3 here 39 days ago, she’s taking a big drop down in grade now and has the experience of four runs to call on (including a win at Sligo last summer on decent ground).

Coco’s Legacy opened her account at Downpatrick last month and is the only other winner in the mix. Brave Lady, second at Limerick last time, should be in the shake-up for minor honours too.
