Highlight of the day

It clearly meant a lot to Gordon Elliott to get back among the winners at Punchestown when Teahupoo claimed the feature for the second year running. There have been some challenging moments in the spring, but he has still emerged with Grade 1 winners at Aintree and Punchestown, as well as a Grade 2 double at Fairyhouse to go with his Cheltenham success.

Ride of the day

As it has been so often this season, Sean Bowen judged it to perfection on Putapoundinthejar in the Specialist Group Handicap Hurdle. He only led late after opting to switch wide and nailed the unfortunate Battle Of Ridgeway.

Performance of the day

A 14-length rout for Majborough is hard to get away from as a standout on the afternoon. He needs to jump a little more professionally to win a Champion Chase, but his ability is enormous.

In-running carnage of the day

There were several twists on day three. Having been sent off at 50/1 (and at a Betfair SP of 88/1), Battle Of Ridgeway hit as low as 8/15 in the in-running markets before getting collared by Putapoundinthejar in the opener. Dont Go Yet (SP 33/1) went close to 4/7 before being run down by Petit Tonnerre, who matched at 47/1 (SP 16/1). Desertmore House, sent off 9/1, hit 1/2 in his La Touche second, Sixandahalf could only finish third after trading at 1/5 in-play, while 12/1 shot Winter Fog traded at nearly 11/8 before fading to fourth in the Champion Stayers. The toughest was saved for last, though, when El Cairos hit 1/33 in-running in the bumper only to give away his chance by going left late on.

Market mover of the day

Mirazur West touched as short as 2/1 (from 8/1) in the Frontline Security Handicap Chase. Perhaps he did a bit too much in front and there’s every chance he’s still better than his mark.

Eyecatcher of the day

If he hadn’t hung left in the closing stages, El Cairos surely would have had a huge say in proceedings. He’s a smart novice hurdling prospect owned by David Maxwell.

Quote of the day

“I was dreaming last night if Teahupoo could win today and Meath could win the Leinster Final, wouldn’t it just finish off what has been a rough season and turn it into a great season? It’s the end of the season and I can’t wait for it all to start again for next season on Monday” - Gordon Elliott after Teahupoo’s second Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle win.
