PADDY Twomey is the new trainer of Concorde Agreement, a lightly-raced three-year-old filly who won a Group 3 race and placed second in a Group 2 event in France already this season.
By Persian King, the filly was recently bought privately by Charlie Bond’s Bond Thoroughbreds who have decided to move the filly from trainer Pierre Groualle to Ireland. Unraced beyond 10 furlongs but related to stayers, Concorde Agreement holds no major entries at the moment but could, in theory, be added to the Irish Oaks next month. Bond Thoroughbreds have a close association with the York area and the operation likes to have runners at the Ebor meeting there in August.
THE 10-time Grade 1 winner Un De Sceaux has died, aged 18, following a freak accident at the French stud farm where he was spending his retirement.
Trained by Willie Mullins for the O’Connell family, Un De Sceaux won at two Cheltenham Festivals but owner Colm O’Connell rates his three Clarence House Chase wins at Ascot higher.
“I don’t think that will be done again, you know,” he said. I’d love it if they could name a race after him at Ascot.
“He was a horse of a lifetime, there’s no doubt about that, he spanned the Sprinter Sacre and Altior eras, won in France a few times, at Punchestown, Cheltenham, Ascot, Leopardstown, Sandown, you name it. We’ll never forget him.”
KATHRYN Foley plans to step down as manager of Sligo Racecourse at the end of the current season. The position has been advertised and further details of the vacancy are carried on page 103. Foley has held the position for approximately 10 years. The track stages nine meetings a year.
JOHN Magnier is The Irish Field Connolly’s Red Mills Breeder of the Month for May. His Coolmore Stud-bred True Love won of the Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas.
