TRAINER Joseph O’Brien sent out a treble on the card. Dancing Destiny was the highlight of the three-timer, when keeping on best to win the Listed Irish EBF Pat Smullen Stakes.
Ridden by Chris Hayes, the Fishdance Limited-owned 5/1 chance led close home to score by three-quarters of a length.
O’Brien said: “Chris gave her a nice ride and we’re delighted. She obviously had a good run here over six (furlongs) and she stepped up in trip today.
“We were actually going to ride her handy, but Chris said the pace was on so he just wanted to give her a chance and I thought it was a good move. She’s a stakes winner now.”
Easy success
Mai Dahlia easily justified 4/5 favouritism when winning the Naas Racecourse Fillies Maiden by five lengths. Dylan Browne McMonagle led over a furlong out on the daughter of Too Darn Hot, before asserting inside the final furlong.
O’Brien reported: “She had a lovely debut here. We were a bit disappointed after Fairyhouse the last day, but we felt like she was training well coming here.
“I’m delighted to have a nice winner for Ahmed (Aldubaili) - he bred the filly. Where she goes next, we’ll see, but hopefully she’ll eventually end up in a blacktype race.”
Hat-trick
Rodeo Blues completed a treble for O’Brien and a double for McMonagle, when taking the Care At Home Handicap.
Leading over a furling out, the 11/4 favourite kept on strongly to score by half a length for owners Annus Mirabilis Syndicate and Sean O’Driscoll and Middle Cow Unlimited.
O’Brien commented: “We thought she’d be better going back left-handed. She hung out badly in Ballinrobe the last time. She won nicely and Dylan gave her a lovely ride.
“She’s actually due to go to the sales tomorrow. We’ll discuss it with the owners and see. It’s nice to get another win and it’s great that there is a big team of the syndicate here today, family and friends.”
AIDAN O’Brien landed the Listed Coolmore Stud Blackbeard Tipperary Stakes with 11/10 favourite Carry The Flag. Ronan Whelan had to be at his strongest to get the Smith, Magnier, Tabor, Westerberg, Brant-owned colt home by a head.
Stable representative, Chris Armstrong reported: “For some reason, he just never fired in Ascot and nothing came to light after. He was in good form since, so Aidan said we’d bring him here and see.
“He’ll appreciate going the six (furlongs) now. He’ll probably go for maybe the Railway Stakes, or over to the race in Goodwood (Richmond Stakes). He’s a work in progress, but he’s a nice one.”
Sovereign Cry won the Lawlor’s Of Naas Supporting Naas GAA Senior Football Race Day Apprentice Handicap for Danny Murphy and Terry Casey. A well-backed 9/2 chance (from 10/1), the John B O’Hagan-owned gelding kept on nicely to win by half a length.
Murphy said: “Our horses are not in form, to be quite honest. The last three months we can’t smell a winner. It was a bit of a shock, to be honest. He’d be different class to them all right.”
BILLY Lee recorded a double in the opening two races. Concorde Landing made an impressive winning debut under the Limerick jockey to take the EMS Copiers Irish EBF Fillies Maiden.
Trained by Paddy Twomey, the Bond Thoroughbred Limited-owned 13/8 favourite powered clear inside the final furlong to win by five lengths.
Twomey said: “She is a nice filly. She came from the breeze-ups and she was a nice filly there. She’s been straightforward since.
“She is entered in the Lowther and she is entered in the Moyglare, because I just felt she had talent.
“I was hoping she’d run well today. We have 50 two-year-olds; we actually have a very good bunch of two-year-olds, but she’s nice.”
Keke kicks on
Keke brought up Lee’s brace when winning the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race for Eddie Lynam.
Sent off 6/5 favourite, the Wood Hall Stud Limited-owned gelding just did enough to land the spoils by a neck.
Lynam said: “On ratings, he had one to beat today and the filly that was second, judging by the result now, we could drop down into the 80s.
“She was rated 78 and she frightened the life out of us. She gave us a proper race.
“From now on, it’s opportunities or group races; Scurry’s or Bold Lads with top weight.
“It’s going to be a huge ask. He’s won eight times for us, so I’m very happy. He is a lovely horse and we’ll keep running him away.”
Determined
John O’Donoghue and Rory Mulligan won the concluding TRM Stay Cool Stay Sound Rated Race with L L Kousty. Sent off 4/1, the Dr Marcella Burns-owned gelding showed plenty of determination to hold off Yaupon De Replay by a short head.
Mulligan said: “I pinged the gates, and got into the position I wanted to be in. The favourite was sitting up beside me. I was able to dictate away the whole way.
“When I turned into the straight, I got stuck into him and he battled gamely the whole way to the line. He’s a bit lazy to get into top gear, but once he does, it’ll take a good one to get by him.”
