Maxine O'Sullivan announced her retirement from race-riding at Tramore on Thursday evening.

The Cork woman revealed her decision after winning the final race on the card aboard Dream On Baby, trained by her partner, Emmet Mullins.

A seven-time champion point-to-point rider, with 80 career winners between the flags, O'Sullivan enjoyed her finest hour in the saddle in 2020 when she rode It Came To Pass, trained by her father Eugene, to win the St James' Place Foxhunter Chase. Both rider and trainer were honoured with the National Hunt Achievement Award by Horse Racing Ireland later that year.

In total O'Sullivan rode 45 track winners in Ireland and a further four in Britain.

Reflecting on her career, she said, “I’ve had an unbelievable time. I loved working with my dad, riding winners for him and for my family was always very special.

“It was great sharing everything with them all the way through and most of my friends are in the weighroom too.

“It Came To Pass winning at the Cheltenham Festival was the highlight, for sure. Rathvinden was my first winner on the track for Ian Ferguson and he was a nice ride to get so early in my career, and of course Corbetts Cross was very important to me and very special for us, with Dad owning and training him in his early days.

“I’m working with Emmet all the time and I’ll continue with that and I’m enjoying my part-time role with RACE too."
