Grosser Allianz Preis von

Bayern (Group 1)

THE George Scott-trained Bay City Roller ran out an impressive winner of the Group 1 Grosser Allianz Preis von Bayern at Munich last Sunday.

It was a second Group 1 in five weeks for the trainer and owners Victorious Forever following Caballo De Mar’s win in the Prix du Cadran on Arc weekend.

The three-year-old Irish-bred son of New Bay was swiftly sent into the lead by rider Adrie de Vries and he powered clear of his rivals in the final two furlongs to win by seven lengths.

There were two other British-trained runners in the mile and a half race and the Sir Mark Prescott-trained mare Tiffany took second for Elite Racing Club with the favourite, Karl Burke’s French Group 2 winner Convergent, owned by Newtown Anner Stud, proving a bit disappointing when finding little for William Buick and coming home seventh of the eight runners.

“It all just came together perfectly today and he was able to show just how good he is,” said Scott on Racing Post.

“Fundamentally, he stays very well and he loves to get his toe in. I think we’ve properly worked him out now. We know what’s required of him next year and how to ride him and that will help us map out a season of Group 1s accordingly.”

Bay City Roller had won the Group 2 Betfred Champagne Stakes at Doncaster as a juvenile and had run six times at three without success, but put up good performances when he chased home the subsequent Arc winner Daryz in the Group 2 Prix Eugene Adam at Saint-Cloud in June and was only narrowly denied by Cualificar in the Group 2 Prix Niel in September.

“Today, I felt he looked the best he’s looked and that’s credit to everyone at home for keeping him in such good form for the duration of the year. He has a really bright future and he’s so well bred,” said Scott.

Victorious Forever consists of two strands of the Bahraini royal family.

“For Victorious Forever, these horses are just so hard to find and I’m just so pleased to have him,” Scott added.
