A WEEK on from teaming up to win Limerick’s Munster National with French Dynamite, trainer Eric McNamara and jockey Paddy O’Brien again proved a winning combination in the Brasserie On The Corner Handicap Chase which went to the John Earls-owned Hees Dynamite (9/2 joint-favourite).

The Ocavango gelding raced prominently throughout and went away after jumping the last to beat Smallcraftwarning by five lengths.

McNamara said: “My son Conor has always been a fan of Patrick’s and has been plugging for me to give him rides. He is great value for his 5lb claim.”

Double Glory

O’Brien doubled up when Red Glory (4/1) just came out on top in a thrilling finish to the Colm Quinn BMW Handicap Hurdle. The Harzand gelding led on the approach to the last and, having been strongly pressed on the run-in by The Nagger Reidy, held on to score by a nose.

The seven-year-old was also completing a double for trainer Henry de Bromhead, who was on the mark with Nouvotic at Wexford.

Assistant trainer Robbie Power said: “He ran a great race in Fairyhouse which was his first run after a wind operation and it seems to have helped him.

“With the horse carrying top-weight, it was important to take the 5lb off and Paddy gave him a great ride. The lads (Garristown Aintree Syndicate) are great supporters of the yard and that’s the third race he has won for us.”

Doctor delivers

A bumper winner at Ballinrobe in May, Doctor Steinberg (5/2) made a winning start over jumps in the Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate Maiden Hurdle.

Always close up under Paul Townend, the Willie Mullins-trained winner jumped to the front five out and stayed on well to beat Frankie John by five and a half lengths.

“His jumping improved as I got more aggressive on him and as he got more practice,” said Townend of the Doctor Dino five-year-old who is owned by Jodmart Construction Ltd.

Alliteration achieves advantage

ALLITERATION (8/1) continued the good run of trainer Philip Dempsey when making a winning debut in the Galway Plastic Surgery 4-Y-O Fillies (Pro/Am) Flat Race under Josh Williamson. The daughter of Poet’s Word wore down Churchfield Annie close home to score by a neck.

After the winner edged left in the final strides and bumped the runner-up, a stewards’ enquiry was called. There was no alteration to the result but Williamson did incur a four-day suspension for careless riding.

Dempsey commented: “William Flood (owner/breeder) is a great man with a passion for the game and is a great supporter.

“He stands the stallion at Boardsmill Stud and we had the mare who won a bumper and was listed-placed.”

Thrilling finish

The featured Glenman Corporation Handicap Chase over two miles and six furlongs produced a good finish with Millforce (12/1) coming out on top for trainer Gavin Cromwell and 7lb claimer Eoin Staples.

Three horses battled it out up the straight and, staying towards the far side, Millforce led a furlong out and got home by half a length and the same from Ballybawn Belter and Bal Kauto.

“He doesn’t do a lot in front but he ground it out well and three miles would suit him,” said Staples of the Orphan Girl Syndicate’s winner.

Runner-up on his first two starts over fences, Oscars Brother (13/8 favourite) went one better in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase.

Trained by Connor King and ridden by his brother Daniel, the Malinas gelding made all to beat O’moore Park by three and a half lengths.

“We were hoping he’d win today and then go for the Florida Pearl Chase at Punchestown, so I suppose we’ll know where we stand with him then,” said the winning trainer of the Mak King Racing Syndicate’s six-year-old.

Final flight blunder fortunate for Queally

WIDE-margin Listowel maiden winner I’ll Sort That (4/9 favourite) was the slightly fortunate winner of the Supermac’s Novice Hurdle under Declan Queally. Often a front-runner, David Needham’s son of Sandmason pulled hard racing in second for most of the race before gaining a narrow lead on the approach to the last. I’ll Sort That was joined by Welonlyhavedone when that rival fell at the final flight, leaving the winner to score by three lengths from Ma Jacks Hill.

Jockey Queally, riding for his father Declan senior who was also amongst the winners at Wexford with Mozzies Sister, said: “It is hard to say what would have happened but I got a horrid spin off him as he was so free the whole way. The next day we’ll either pop out and lead or drop in, and I wouldn’t rule out going to Navan for the Monksfield Novice Hurdle.”

Trainer Tom Cooper was disappointed to see his Shuttle Diplomacy being pulled up on his hurdling debut at Galway the previous day but gained compensation when Amen Kate (1/3 favourite) ran out an easy winner of the WinaBMW.ie Mares Maiden Hurdle. Third at Listowel last month, the daughter of Flemensfirth made all under Sam Ewing to beat Rainbow Connection by eight and a half lengths.

Cooper said of Ciaran Mooney and John Ryan’s five-year-old: “I’d say she is only coming to herself as she was only in six weeks before Listowel. She had a big procedure done removing an abscess under a tooth in July so was in hospital for a full month. We’ll probably look for a graded race now.”

Cooper added: “I think the ground just wasn’t soft enough for Shuttle Diplomacy and he didn’t jump a hurdle. Bryan (son) schooled him over five flights of hurdles the day before, which we always do, and maybe he might have tweaked something. We’ll send him to Ger Kelly (vet) during the week to get him checked.”
