Ballinrobe's first fixture of 2026 has been cancelled due to heavy rain.
The Co Mayo track was due to stage a seven-race National Hunt card on Friday evening but the track failed to pass an early morning inspection.
Shane Ryder, IHRB Clerk of the Course, said: “Following our inspection this morning, unfortunately we have deemed the track at Ballinrobe unfit for racing today and the fixture has been cancelled.
“We had a further 13mm of rain overnight, which was slightly more than was forecast and has left water lying in some parts of the track. There is the chance of further rainfall throughout the day with another 5-6mm possible.
“It’s a disappointing outcome but the team at Ballinrobe will now liaise with Horse Racing Ireland to reschedule the fixture in due course.”
Racecourse manager John Flannelly added: “The decision to cancel was not taken lightly, but the significant rainfall over recent days left us with no viable alternative. I know this will be disappointing, particularly as this was our opening fixture of the season, and I would like to thank the Ballinrobe team for their tireless efforts in the lead-up to the meeting.”
