ADO McGuinness has big plans for Star Strewn after she delivered on stable debut in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Fillies Maiden over seven furlongs.

The daughter of Starman had posted fourth and third places on two spins on the Polytrack for Cormac Farrell which saw her go off 15/8 joint favourite for this assignment.

Adam Caffrey had her positioned in second at the halfway stage and guided her into the lead in the home straight. She finished out her race well to put two and a half lengths on Glitter And Glory for owners Adam R Potts and Brian Sheerin. .

McGuinness said: “I think she could go forward and you wouldn’t know where you would end up with this filly. I think she is definitely a blacktype filly and even more.

“We probably won’t come back down here again, we’ll just put her away and just go to the turf with her. We might run her in a Guineas Trial in Leopardstown at some stage and see what way we get on then after that.”

Successful debut

Faustyna popped up at 14/1 on racecourse debut in the Group Deals Available At Dundalk Stadium Maiden over six furlongs.

Gavin Cromwell’s charge raced towards the rear under Chris Hayes, from the widest draw, and began to get interested in the first prize with a quarter of a mile to go.

From second outside the furlong marker, she came home nicely to take over in the closing stages. The Kodi Bear filly then saw off Jazzit by three-quarters of a length for owner John A McNally.

Hayes said: “I thought we got going plenty early for the level of maiden it was. I picked up and then I just ground it out - she will be better going further.”

Hayes landed another winner on top-weight Boston Benjamin for Gordon Elliott in the DundalkStadium.com Handicap. The 10/1 shot worked his way to the front close home, but had to withstand a rallying Salacious by the minimum margin of a nose for owner Denis Barry.

Hayes said: “I travelled into it nicely and I thought I was kind of mooching away to go and win without giving him too hard of a race. The second fought me well and it was a lot of weight, so it was a good performance.”

Angel carries Mulligan to reduced claim

RORY Mulligan saw his claim cut from 7lb to 5lb after victory on Masked Angel in the Put The Fun In Fundraising At Dundalk Handicap over six furlongs.

The 10/3 favourite raced in mid-division and moved into contention at the ‘two’ pole. She stalked the leader Hasiyna approaching the final furlong and passed her with 150 yards to go. Mulligan sent her on by two and a quarter lengths at the line for owner/trainer Diego Dias.

The jockey said: “I let her pop out of the stalls and I got following one of the fancied ones the whole way. Took me to the furlong pole and I went for her in the last furlong and she finished it out well.”

Big Heart

Just the four runners went to post for the View Restaurant At Dundalk Stadium Handicap and 4/9 favourite Take Heart stayed on best over the extended 10 furlongs. Jack Kearney was content to keep an eye on his three rivals from behind, making progress in the final quarter of a mile.

He didn’t have the clearest route, despite the small field size, but did have a willing partner who arrived in the lead in the final 150 yards. The duo went on by a length and a quarter for trainer Stephen Thorne and owner Shamrock Thoroughbreds.

Kearney said: “The aim was just to get him doing things right, have him settled and have him hitting the line well. I always thought I was going to pick them up. It obviously didn’t help, the runner-up (Penzance) bringing me across the track but, in fairness, I thought I did it a shade snugly.”

Double the tally

Terence O’Brien’s Inchiquin Maid doubled her career total in the Dundalk Winter Series Leading Trainer & Jockey Championship Handicap over two miles.

Reese Holohan moved her into a threatening position between horses inside the final two furlongs and the seven-year-old mare swept to the front 150 yards out. The 20/1 chance proved a length and three-quarters too good for Minella Mate.

Holohan, in the Stitched Pockets Syndicate silks, said: “Pretty straightforward - everywhere we were, we wanted to be. Just as soon as we turned in, a gap came for me, she quickened away through it and hit the line good and strong for me.”

Ben ready for action following thrilling finish

ASSISTANT trainer, and owner, Kate Harrington was on hand to see Ben Lawers justify odds-on favouritism in the Book Online @ DundalkStadium.com Maiden.

Keithen Kennedy asked Jessica Harrington’s colt for more in second a furlong and a half down, and momentum saw the 8/11 favourite collar gambled-on Battle Borne by a neck close home.

“He actually jumped slow and he actually relaxed I think for the first time in a race,” the assistant trainer said. “Keithen said he took two massive blows in the straight, he’s going to improve no end. He was only just ready to start today.”

Off the mark

Baila Conmigo (6/1) built upon a placed effort on the Polytrack last month to get off the mark in the Floodlit Fridays At Dundalk Handicap.

Ben Coen was on board and pushed him along in mid-division racing to the home bend.

The four-year-old gelding made headway straightening for home and Coen drove him on a furlong down. The pair kept up the gallop to take the spoils by a length and three-quarters for owner Cristiana Rodrigues.

Trainer Ciaran Murphy said: “He’s a work in progress and he seems to handle that surface well. He’s improving away. Possibly come back for one more. He’ll be a nice horse for the turf - he’s a nice, big, strong horse.”
