THERE are a few new Irish faces in the jockeys’ room.

Tipperary man David Byrne had three winners this season, his biggest success to date coming when the Irish-bred Long House Saint captured a $50,000 allowance hurdle at Far Hills for Rosbrian Farm.

Gerard Galligan, who is based with Virginian trainer Doug Fout, had a big winner when winning the $75,000 novice hurdle at the Iroquois meet this spring and will end the season with four winners.

Sean McDermott just arrived over for the autumn season to ride for leading trainer Jack Fisher and had two winners, including the PA Hunt Cup at the weekend.

The season draws to an end in Camden, South Carolina today (November 15th) when the feature race is the 54th running of the Grade 1 Colonial Cup Hurdle.

The Colonial Cup used to be a sought-after prize by many Irish and English trainers and jockeys. It was won in 1972 by Tommy Carberry on Inkslinger.

Because of the harsh weather along the east coast in the winter months, the 2015 season won’t start until mid-March.
