IT has already been quite a hectic week for the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years. American Pharoah runs in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga on Saturday and the race will be shown live on At The Races.

The colt had his final workout on Sunday at Del Mar in California and was flown cross-country on Wednesday before boarding a horse van and receiving a police escort from New York to Saratoga.

American Pharoah seems to have settled in well and, after his first gallop around the historic track on Thursday, he looked to be in good form.

Bob Baffert’s charge is the 1/5 favourite in a field of 10 three-year-olds who will race over a mile and a quarter. If successful American Pharoah will become only the second of the 12 Triple Crown winners to go on and take the Travers. Whirlaway did it in 1941.

The New York Racing Association raised the purse of the $1.25 million Travers Stakes to $1.6 million to ensure that American Pharoah would run here. The event is officialy sold out with 50,000 spectators due to fill the stands.

Earlier on the Saratoga card, British trainer Hugo Palmer runs New Providence in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa Stakes. The $400,000 turf race is over an extended mile.
