THE jockey and trainer combination of Dario Vargiu and Stefano Botti dominated the card at the Cappanelle in Rome last Sunday with five winners. Their haul included the three pattern races on the card.
Priore Philip ran out an easy winner of the feature, the Group 1 Premio Roma GBI Racing over 10 furlongs. The three-year-old Italian-bred son of Dane Friendly ran out an easy winner to complete a hat-trick of wins this season. The colt had six lengths to spare over stablemate Cleo Fan and Dartagnan d’Azur.
Botti was winning the major race in Italy for a fourth successive week, having won with Hero Look in the Group 2 Gran Criterium and followed up with the subsequent Group 1 successes of Dylan Mouth (Gran Premio del Jockey Club) and Final Score (Lydia Tesio).
Priore Philip is now unbeaten in three attempts at Group 1 company and has won 11 of his 12 starts.
The Group 2 Premio Ribot over a mile went to Porsenna, continuing a fine run in Italy for his sire Dylan Thomas. He is also the sire of the top colt and filly Dylan Mouth and Final Score. The colt had a half length to spare over Kramulkie and the favourite Dancing Sands as he came from last to first to record his seventh victory
The Vargiu/Botti treble was initiated by Kyllachy Queen in the Listed Criterium Femminile-M Tudini over seven and a half furlongs.
