SIR Michael Stoute’s Hillstar, a few pounds below the best middle-distance horses but very consistent, found the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup very much to his liking and came home a length and a half in front of Tasaday.

Ryan Moore moved him into a challenging position from two furlongs out and the son of Danehill Dancer was on top a furlong later as Tasaday, having taken over from Quest For Peace, started to feel the strain.

The winner rewarded his patient supporters at 11/4. The target is the Canadian International, where he would have an excellent chance.

Tasaday did well after her third in the Yorkshire Oaks, as did third-placed Cubanita. Presumably she will return here for the St Simon Stakes, a race she won last year.

ANGEL HAS WINGS

Co Durham handler Michael Dods has a very fast filly in Mecca’s Angel, who followed a comprehensive victory at Doncaster with another fluent effort in the Group 3 Dubai International Airport World Trophy.

There were four non-runners, all of whom might well have given her plenty more to do. As it was, she tracked Take Cover to the two-furlong marker, then quickened past for Paul Mulrennan and went away to beat Justice Day by two and a half lengths.

Mecca’s Angel is a highly progressive three-year old and it is a pity she does not hold the Prix de l’Abbaye engagement. The Longchamp five furlongs with give underfoot would have suited her well and owner David Metcalfe is already targeting the race next year.

** On the subject of the Abbaye, William Haggas indicated this week that impressive York and Doncaster scorer Muthmir might well be supplemented.

He would be racing over five furlongs for the first time but the trainer believes it would be no problem.
