OWNER and breeder Reinhard Fabrizius has died at his home in Leverkusen in Germany, following a brief illness. He had a long association with the Irish bloodstock industry and boarded mares at Pat Fitzsimons’s Oak Lodge Stud and John Tuthill’s Owenstown Stud.
He enjoyed success as an owner and breeder with the Frances Crowley-trained Tofana (Bold Fact), at the Curragh at the Irish Derby meeting and with the Mark Johnston- trained Tampa Lady at Newmarket’s July meeting.
Other winners to carry his distinctive ‘Irish’ colours of orange jacket and emerald green sleeves silks and white star cap, were Kileen Star, Tadeska, Islamorada, Clearwater Lady and Quintiliani, who ran in the Irish 2000 Guineas won by Turtle Island.
The most prolific winning horse that he bred was James Stark, winner of 10 races.
He had horses in training in Britain and in Ireland with Michael Grassick, David Hanley, John Oxx, Frances Crowley, Peadar Matthews, James Burns and Paul Deegan.
He was well-known at bloodstock sales and racing festivals, he provided assistance to many of Mark Johnston’s owners and jockeys with their runners in Germany.
