VADAMOS looks sure to make it at Group 1 level this season judging by the way he ran away with the Prix du Muguet.

Perfectly positioned throughout the mile by Pierre-Charles Boudot, the five-year-old was after the lead early in the straight having been well up from the start. He stretched out impressively on the run to the post and had three and a half lengths to spare over the triple Group 1 winner Ervedya at the post.

Mr Owen ran on to take third place while Lady O’Reilly’s Sovereign Debt finished fifth (€4,550) and beaten half way up the straight. André Fabre has always adored Vadamos who has now twice proved with victories in Group 2 races that he is not just a morning glory.

His trainer was at Newmarket where he greeted Usherette in the winner’s circle after the Dahlia Stakes (Group 2) so it was left to owner-breeder Andreas Putsch to comment after the Muguet.

BEST DISTANCE

He said: “Pierre-Charles Boudot believes that a mile is Vadamos’s best distance and now we must try and win a Group 1 race with him. He was so disappointing in the Champion Stakes that we didn’t enter him at Ascot. The d’Ispahan could be a possibility.”

The son of Monsun has no engagements for the moment, but many choices. Jean-Claude Rouget was delighted with the Aga Khan’s Ervedya who was given a gentle ride by Christophe Soumillon. The pair waited at the back of the field and ran on nicely throughout the final stages without ever threatening the winner.

Rouget said: “She was at level weights with Vadamos and he had the advantage of previous runs this season. This race was not an objective and I liked the way she finished. Her jockey was not hard on her.”

The daughter of Siyouni has been entered in the Queen Anne and Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot. Third placed Mr Owen did not have the best of runs and has been engaged in the Queen Anne which according to Francois Rohaut remains an option.
