TREVE looks on course to land a historic treble in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe judging by the way she slammed some useful rivals which included two other Group 1 winners at Saint-Cloud yesterday afternoon.

The mare was coasting throughout the 10½ furlongs of the Prix Corrida in the hands of Thierry Jarnet who hardly budged an inch during the race. Held up early on and sixth into the straight, Treve coasted the final furlong and went on to win by four lengths from We Are, Mayhem and Feodora.

The daughter of Motivator was greeted with rapturous applause when she entered the winner’s enclosure, without her off-fore shoe. “That was fantastic” were the first words of Criquette Head-Maarek after her champion’s second success at Saint-Cloud.

She added: “I knew she was in great shape and was proved right. She has kept her vitality. That was the ideal seasonal debut and a dream come true. Treve will come on for the outing and that is just what we wanted. She will now come back to Saint-Cloud for the Grand Prix (June 28th) which will be more difficult as she will meet the males. Today it was just a race for the girls. The three months she had at the Quesnay (the Head’s stud were she was born) during the winter certainly did her a lot of good.”

France’s leading lady trainer continued: “She had a lovely action today and had some new shoes which appeared to suit her well. I lost no sleep before the race as I was confident of her overall condition. I hope things continue like this for the rest of the year. The pacemaker (Silvaplana) did a great job.”

Bought in for €22,000 at the sales as a yearling, Treve was purchased by Sheikh Joaan Al Thani for a rumoured €8 million after she won the Prix de Diane Longines in the scarlet colours of the Quesnay. She has now amassed €7.5 million in prize money and a third Arc looks well in her grasp after her victory in the Corrida. Paddy Power have cut her to 3/1 for a record third Arc win.
