THE Qatar Prix Foy has not been a good guide in the run up to the Arc in the same season for many years, although Postponed won the race last season and is the current favourite for Europe’s richest race.

Silverwave was the genuine winner last Sunday and German-based Jean-Pierre Carvalho deserves credit for the supplementary entry of Ito. A field of just four lined-up for the final trial and Ito not only made most of the running but also thoroughly deserved second place, which recovered all the money for his late entry in the Group 2 event.

Silverwave ended up the easy winner after taking the lead early in the final furlong. He won by a length from Ito, Ellipique and One Foot In Heaven, who was a most disappointing last having run way below his best form. Silverwave appears to be improving with age and has now added the Foy to a prior Group 1 success in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.

He will be spot on for the Arc but will be without Maxime Guyon who is sure to be claimed by the Wertheimer brothers for Left Hand. The son of Silver Frost is under the care of Pascal Bary and he reported: “The conclusions I have after this race is that the horse is in great form and adapted well to the track. Silverwave is now relaxed in his races and now we must wait another three weeks when he will line up for the Arc. Happily, Ito was a supplement and he set a good pace, which was the fastest of all the trials.”

Ito will not run in the Arc but Carvalho will be represented in the race. He explained: “We didn’t come to make the running for the others but he is a real galloper who like to go fast. He will now be aimed at the Grand Prix at Munich in October.

“I will be saddling Savoir Vivre in the Arc. He has recovered well after his win in the Grand Prix de Deauville. He is progressing well and becoming more serious.”
