MUTHMIR just loves Chantilly, which he proved when winning his second Group 2 Prix du Gros-Chene. He took the sprint for the first time in 2015.
Jim Crowley employed waiting tactics on the seven-year-old who took control of the five-furlong dash well inside the final furlong. He beat Finsbury Square by a length with the Italian horse Plusquemavie a respectable third.
The favourite Aladdine was a spent force by the two-furlong post.
William Haggas did the post-race talking after his consolation win following the disappointment of Rivet in the Jockey Club: “The horse was working well after his disappointing run at Newmarket. He loves Chantilly and we could be back for the l’Abbaye de Longchamp over the course and distance in October but his next target is the King’s Stand Stakes at Ascot.”
Fabrice Chappet said of Finsbury Square: “Once again he’s placed in this race. (He was third last year and fourth to Muthmir in 2015). He’s been entered in the King’s Stand and the Golden Jubilee at Ascot.”
Kitesurf impressed in the mile and a half Prix de Royaumont and totally reversed the form with the favourite Musawaah who could only manage a disappointing seventh after attempting to go from pillar-to-post.
Ridden by Mickael Barzalona and trained by André Fabre, the daughter of Dubawi stayed on well to win her first group contest ahead of Bebe D’Amour and Lady Paname. The then Godolphin manager John Ferguson was on hand and he commented: “Like many horses by Dubawi trained by André Fabre, they keep on improving. The Prix Vermeille has been mentioned as a longterm target.”
She is also in the Prix de Diane Longines.
Of Musawaah, Sheikh Hamdan’s racing manager Angus Gold disclosed: “I think she lost her chance before the race as she was nervous in the stables and at the start. She has already beaten the winner.”
Inns Of Court wins
GODOLPHIN, André Fabre and Mickael Barzalona also started the weekend with success as Inns Of Court, the only three-year-old in the race, won the Group 3 Prix du Palais-Royal at Maisons-Laffitte on Saturday with something in hand. He defeated last year’s winner Attendu by just over a length with Karar close up third.
Lisa-Jane Graffard represents Godolphin in France and said: “He was a bit keen in the Poulains and his saddle slipped. He could go for the Jersey Stakes but it comes a bit quick. The owner and trainer will decide.”
