ANDRE FABRE never hurries his two-year-olds and that is why it is so important to keep an eye on them during the dying days of the flat season. Since the beginning of this month, he has been totting up juvenile winners virtually every day and the majority of them are for Godolphin SNC, the French end of the operation. However last Tuesday, he popped one in for Coolmore when Wind Chimes made short work of beating 10 rivals in the Listed Prix Herod at Chantilly.

The daughter of Mastercraftsman, who cost €160,000 at the Arqana August sale last year, crossed the line three and a half lengths clear of the runner up Louis D’Or. She has now won her only two races by the same distance and was running on grass for the first time in the seven-furlong Herod. Pierre-Charles Boudot feels that Wind Chimes is a class act and it would be no surprise if she begins next year in group company.

During the same afternoon, Godolphin landed a newcomers’ event over a mile on the all weather with Magny Cours. This son of Medaglia d’Oro won by a comfortable three lengths and in doing so became Fabre’s 143rd success of the season.

Mind Mapping, a colt by the same sire, is another who looks classic material for Godolphin. He opened his account over a mile at Saint-Cloud and completely outclassed his six rivals.

CLASSIC POSSIBILITIES

Another Godolphin colt worth keeping an eye on is Wootton who is under the care of Alex Pantall in the provinces. This talented trainer normally has mainly fillies under his care but in Wootton, he could have a colt with classic possibilities. He has won his only two races by an six and five lengths respectively and his most recent win came in a listed contest at Deauville in October.

The same month Fabre saddled Cascadian (New Approach) to win a second race after the colt missed out to a Charlie Appleby’s Mythical Magic in a listed race at Deauville. Cascadian should have turned out for the Group 1 Criterium International which was rather hastily cancelled after a spat amongst professionals.

Pop Song is another New Approach filly. She made her racing debut on the all weather at Lyon La Soie and beat some more experienced rivals with a little in hand. Beau Ideal (Exceed And Excel) and Deemster (Invincible Spirit) are other highly promising juveniles under Fabre’s care for Godolphin. The former came back in distance to land the five furlong Listed Criterium de Vitesse at Chantilly and Deemster looked smart when taking a maiden on the all weather at the same track.

Other youngsters to have won in November among the 79 Godolphins trained by Fabre are Taglioni, Musis Amica, Zucchini, Hishikari, Voladora and Mount Pelion. Plenty to dream about during the winter for the French Bloodstock Manager Lisa-Jane Graffard.

SAINT-CLOUD

While on the subject of two-year-olds, Pascal Bary certainly has a promising filly in the form of Berea. She broke her duck eight days ago at Saint-Cloud in a maiden without being asked a serious question.

The daughter of Manduro is highly rated by her trainer. He said: “She’s a good filly who disappointed me on her debut when she didn’t understand what was asked for. Now she’ll be rested until next year.”
