FRANKIE Dettori teamed up with Italy’s top performer Dylan Mouth, picking up another top prize when he ran out the easy winner of the Group 2 Gran Premio di Milano at San Siro in Milan on Sunday. The Marco Botti-trained joint-favourite took the six-horse contest by five and a half lengths from the other joint-favourite Circus Couture. The five-year-old entire is a son of Castle Hyde Stud stallion Dylan Thomas.

Dylan Mouth made all to score on his first start for the Newmarket trainer. He is now being aimed at several big overseas targets beginning with the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on July 3rd.

“One race the owner would really like to have a runner in is the Melbourne Cup. There’s also Canada and he’ll run somewhere over here as well,” Botti said.

Dettori rode Responsibleforlove for trainer Endo Botti in the Group 2 Oaks d’Italia, but the favourite could only finish 10th behind easy winner Nepal, a German-bred filly who beat other German-trained fillies Gambissara and Son Macia by two and three-quarter lengths and four and a half lengths.

The winner is trained by Dr Andreas Bolte and it was a first pattern win for the daughter of Gestut Rottgen sire Kallisto (by Sternkonig).

The Group 3 Premio Carlo Vittadini was won by Kaspersky for Endo Botti. It was a third pattern victory for the five-year-old son of Coolmore Stud stallion Footstepsinthesand.

Wai sets up a Derby run

Wai Key Star advertised his classic potential with victory in the Group 3 Ittlingen Derby Trial at Baden-Baden.

The son of Soldier Hollow delivered an impressive performance and will most likely be among the favourites for this year’s German Derby. The colt finished strongly, putting distance between himself and the field for a confident two and three-quarter lengths win over the favourite El Loco.

The son of Gestut Auenquelle stallion Soldier Hollow is trained by Andreas Wohler.

Shining Emerald, a son of Rathasker sire Clodovil and formerly trained in Ireland, justified favouritism for Andreas Wohler in the Group 3 Silberne Peitsche over six furlongs at Baden-Baden on Sunday. The five-year-old was winning his third pattern race, scoring by a length in the 10-runner field.

The Group 2 Grosser Preis der Badischen Wirtschaft, over a mile and three for older horses, went to Iquitos. It was a first pattern success for the four-year-old son of Adlerflug, and he is trained by Hans-Jurgen Groschel.
