WILLIAM Haggas won with Queen Of Bermuda at Ayr and celebrated an across-the-card double with Young Rascal, who got up in the final stride to foil Mirage Dancer in a thrilling climax to the Group 3 Legacy Cup.

Sir Michael Stoute’s Mirage Dancer looked very good indeed in the Glorious Stakes at Goodwood and Ryan Moore tried to make all here. Desert Encounter came to lead at the furlong pole with Young Rascal right there, but Mirage Dancer rallied when pressed and led again close home, only to be short-headed by Young Rascal in the final stride, with Desert Encounter half a length away.

The winner started at 5/2 and was rediscovering his form of several months ago, when he won the Chester Vase and was regarded as a live Derby contender. He finished only seventh at Epsom and had 112 days off before last week’s run.

“He ran in the Derby like his legs were tied together and it knocked the stuffing out of him. For me the right race is the Prix Chaudenay over Arc weekend. It’s only two weeks away but if it came up soft we’d be very tempted to go.”
