ROGER Charlton is another trainer in form and Blue Mist’s impressive victory the day before was followed by an overdue success for classy sprinter Projection in the Group 3 John Guest Racing Bengough Stakes for the Royal Ascot Racing Club.

Once placed in a Wokingham, Projection should probably have won a major sprint handicap before graduating to group races, in which sphere he has been consistent without winning.

He was second to Blue Point in this last year, and with the wet weather reducing the field to four, Henry Candy’s Limato was one of those to drop out. Projection (2/1) found just enough to hold Sir Michael Stoute’s favourite Dream Of Dreams after looking to be merely lobbing along to the furlong marker.

“He had to switch leads and wait for his run, so it was a good ride by Kieran (Shoemark),” Charlton said. “Projection deserved it. He doesn’t like it soft but we let him run. Why not come back for the Qipco British Champions Sprint and give it another shot for his Royal Ascot owners?”
