WELLS Farhh Go had his supporters at 7/1 but the layers enjoyed a virtual clean sweep as Jane Chapple-Hyam’s Naval Intelligence took the Listed Edmondson Hall Solicitors Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at 33/1.

By War Front out of the Galileo mare Say, who had a very busy 2013 for Aidan O’Brien, Naval Intelligence raced in the far side trio for John Egan, moved up two furlongs out and took over a furlong later. He stayed the mile very well and came home a length and a half in front of Gabr and Masaarr.

“He’s small but very good,” Chapple-Hyam said. “When you’ve been in the game for 30 years and you see something like this on the gallops, you’ve got to go for it.” It will be fascinating to see what happens next, but Naval Intelligence, unbeaten in two outings, may be heading for the Arlington Million next month.

PROBERT AGAIN

David Probert is on a roll and won the very valuable bet365 Handicap for his boss Andrew Balding on 8/1 chance Foxtrot Lady, who had a nose to spare over Stormbridger, the pair clear of Roundhay Park.

Several of these had finished behind Encrypted in a similar sprint handicap at York. The latter went lame this time and Foxtrot Lady proved best of his old rivals, getting the better of a sustained duel with Kevin Ryan’s runner-up by inches.

Foxtrot Lady, owned by longtime patron Jeff Smith of Lochsong fame, is a half-sister to the yard’s Dancing Star, who went on to win the Stewards’ Cup after taking this.

Balding was slightly worried about getting into the big handicap but Foxtrot Lady should make it.

Favourite backers went home happy when David Egan sent Karl Burke’s lightly-weighted Midsummer Knight clear to claim the closing five-furlong dash.
