IRISH stables continue to target suitable races in Britain and Gordon Elliott enjoyed an easy success with 4/1 chance Urtheoneiwant in a novices’ handicap chase at Perth on Sunday.
Tom Scudamore is the latest big-name jockey to profit from Elliott’s raids and he brought the seven-year-old mare through with a well-timed challenge over the three-mile trip to beat Florida Calling quite comfortably.
“The step-up in trip, the better ground and the hood back on all helped,” said the jockey.
At Stratford on the same day, Gavin Cromwell’s Scripturient took the Peugeot Citizen Handicap Chase even more easily, coming home a dozen lengths ahead of Shaiyzar.
“The race fell apart around him with others making mistakes and that helped him,” remarked winning jockey Jonathan Moore. “He hasn’t always been straightforward himself with his jumping in the past but no problems today.”
At Ayr on Monday, John McConnell’s Lucent Dream, 7/4 favourite, won the mile and a quarter handicap, much to the relief of his supporters, who saw him squeezed between rivals at one point.
“He was the meat in the sandwich there and nearly came down. He did really well to win after that,” said winning jockey Paul Hanagan.
