BRIAN Meehan completed a handsome double at Newmarket on Saturday as 5/1 favourite Kitaaby took the Eddie Stobart Industrial Sector Handicap over seven furlongs and Windfast followed up in the same sponsor’s Listed Hopeful Stakes over six.

Richard Kingscote always had Windfast, a five-year-old by Exceed And Excel, well placed behind the leaders and the 11/1 chance ran on up the hill with rare gusto to beat Buying Trouble by a neck.

He can go in again over this trip at a stiff track.

Kitaaby had James Doyle’s assistance and was in front over a furlong from the finish, keeping on to beat Shawaahid by just over a length. He was completing his hat-trick despite being raised another 6lb.

The ground was plenty firm enough for him and his drift left in the closing stages did the runner-up no favours, although the result was not affected.
