NEWRY trainer Liam Lennon, like so many of his compatriots these days, spotted an attractive opportunity in Britain and won Market Rasen’s Happy 70th Birthday David Coleman Handicap Chase with 9/2 shot I’m An Izz Wizz, who had his race won approaching the last and pulled 10 lengths clear of Hepijeu at the line.
Lennon had brought the nine-year-old back to something like his best and this was no mean effort under 11st 12lb in the hands of Conor O’Farrell. I’m An Izz Wizz easily cut through his field and stayed the near two and three-quarter miles very well. He was 10lbs above his winning mark at Gowran Park in late July, so this was some performance.
SKELTON ON FORM
Punters know full well that Dan Skelton and Nigel Twiston-Davies have to be followed in autumn so it was surprising that Twiston-Davies’ Ballybolley was allowed to start at 10/1 in the Listed 188bet.co.uk Prelude Handicap Chase in the hands of Daryl Jacob. He beat Guitar Pete by a tidy four lengths after leading at the last.
Skelton’s Listen To The Man went off at a remarkable 20/1 in the same firm’s listed handicap hurdle but was up there all the way for Ian Popham and held Hello Sweetie by nearly three lengths.
Power rides double
THE in-form Robbie Power was on the mark with two winners for Colin Tizzard at Newton Abbot on Monday.
In the PKF Francis Clark Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle over two miles, one furlong Drinks Interval won at 5/2.
Powers’ second winner, in the Book Kuoni At Peter Goord Travel Handicap Chase over two miles and a half-furlong, was Sizing Platinum who went off the 11/8 favourite and won for Alan Potts by 14 lengths.
