GOD’S OWN, winner of Exeter’s Grade 2 Haldon Gold Cup in 2014 and third 12 months later, took the bwin-sponsored prize again, at the age of 10, on Tuesday.

Always going well as favourite, Ozzie The Oscar made the running, God’s Own challenged two out but made a mistake at the last. He picked up well for Paddy Brennan and wore down his very game rival to score by half a length, with San Benedeto seven lengths away in third.

God’s Own is a credit to trainer Tom George and was winning his eighth race from 34 outings. He will no doubt contest most of the major two-mile chases once again with the Tingle Creek at Sandown next month a likely port of call.

INCREDIBLE HORSE

George told Racing UK: “He arrived with us when he was a four-year-old and has been an incredible horse for us. I was more emotional about that one than any other winner I’ve had.

“They probably didn’t go quick enough for him early on as he was fresh and keen. A strong gallop suits him better than anything and this ground is so important to him. He has been a fabulous horse to have.”

The BHA Veterinary Officer on hand reported that second favourite Diego Du Charmil lost a right fore shoe and then had an overreach on his right heel.

Trainer Paul Nicholls later reported the horse could be on the sidelines for two to three weeks.

ELSEWHERE in Britain this week, Meath trainer Shane Crawley found an opportunity for his mare Sassy Diva who took a mares’ maiden hurdle at Ayr last Saturday at odds of 1/3. Donagh Meyler travelled over to take the winning ride.

Cork trainer Garrett Ahern’s Sweet Destination ran out an even more comfortable winner, to the tune of 46 lengths in a novices’ handicap chase over an extended three miles and one furlong at Plumpton on Monday. Danny Mullins was on board the mare, a 5/2 shot, who was much too good for favourite and runner-up Between The Waters.
