JAMES Doyle took the honours at Newmarket on Saturday, riding a fine treble.
His afternoon began in the most satisfactory way when To Eternity, trained by John Gosden for Lady Bamford, strode away with the Listed Chalice Stakes over a mile and a half.
Doyle came over from stall 14 to race against the stands’ rails, opting to stay there when the rest of the field remained in the centre after the July Course’s one and only turn.
The 5/1 chance never saw a rival and cruised home six lengths ahead of Pleasant Surprise.
To Eternity is by Galileo and this was a fine effort after nearly a year on the sidelines. Doyle, expressing his surprise that no one followed him, remarked that she might well be up to taking in the Park Hill Stakes at the Doncaster St Leger meeting.
GODOLPHIN AGAIN
The Godolphin youngsters have been flying and Dathanna ran out a ready winner of the Newmarket Equine Hospital Fillies’ Novice Stakes, Doyle again securing the nearside rail and coming home just over a length ahead of Amourice.
Plane are flexible for the Charlie Appleby-trained daughter of Dubawi, who was sent off at 7/4 favourite on the strength of her good fourth at Haydock.
The jockey’s treble came up when William Haggas’ three-year-old colt Mojito justified 5/6 favouritism in the Malcolm Roxburgh Retirement Handicap over seven furlongs.
Shanahan wins
PAT Shanahan’s filly Set In Stone, dropped back to a mark of 73, readily took the Macgregor Flooring Co Handicap over a mile at Hamilton on Saturday evening. She came from off the pace to beat Dark Crystal by two lengths and looked well in with young Rowan Scott claiming 5lb.
This was Set In Stone’s second victory from three recent outings at the Scottish track.
