Danehill too strong

ANDRÉ Fabre’s Waldgeist was made 4/7 favourite for the Group 3 Gigaset Cumberland Lodge Stakes following his fourth in the Irish Derby. However, try as he might, he could not quite reel in Richard Hannon’s Danehill Kodiac, 8/1, who made all for Sean Levey and held on by a neck with Secret Number third.

The winner is progressive and very brave but the favourite seemed to be given plenty to do by Vincent Cheminaud. Still fresh and lightly raced, the Breeders’ Cup Turf may enter calculations.

William Haggas’ 20/1 shot One Master handed him a very pleasant surprise in the Listed totepool British EBF October Stakes over seven furlongs for fillies and mares.

John Gosden’s Eternally was another beaten odds-on shot (at 10/11) and could find no more after leading to the furlong pole. Both One Master and Bletchley came from the rear and the former kept on the better for Martin Harley to score by just over a length.

Glamorous shock

THE listed races certainly did favourite backers no favours, with Waady, another Gosden-trained 10/11 chance, also third behind 33/1 shot Just Glamorous in the opening Hope And Homes For Children Rous Stakes over five furlongs.

Monmouth trainer Ron Harris does well in valuable sprints and Just Glamorous, very busy since beating Marsha in a Group 3 in France last autumn, rediscovered his form after a breathing operation and was always dominating for Oisin Murphy.

“We nearly went for the Abbaye and he could go to Dubai but he’ll be put away for now, I think,” Harris said.
