GORDON Elliott doesn’t forget his old stamping grounds, even in Galway Races week, and pulled off a four-timer at Perth’s Tuesday meeting.

On good ground Youghal By The Sea won the opening novices’ hurdle for Elliott going off at 4/5 favourite after a previous win at Downpatrick over three furlongs farther. Dickie Johnson was on board and the pair travelled well in fourth and improved to come clear after the last to win for owner/breeder Jerry Russell, father of jockey Davy.

The evening’s feature, the Heineken UK Handicap Chase, saw stablemates from the Elliott yard battle out the finish with Swingbridge and Dickie Johnson prevailing over Flaxen Flare and Conor O’Farrell.

Swingbridge (11/2) looked comfortable over the three-mile trip and passed his tiring, front-running stablemate two out. He was eased down to win by 11 lengths for owner Noel Moran.

The amateur riders’ handicap hurdle went to Make My Heart Fly (15/8) and the recently married Johnny Barry, for the Twenty Syndicate.

The Stowaway mare chased the leading pair from three out and passed the tiring favourite Great Colaci (6/4 favourite) to win by three and three-quarter lengths.

The last race, the 9pm Great Perthshire Picnic September 2018 Handicap Hurdle over three miles, confirmed it was no picnic for the bookmakers as Elliot’s team sealed their fate with their fourth winner of the night.

Rightdownthemiddle (heavily backed to 4/6), a former chaser, had no trouble in sustaining his rhythm in the modest pace and quickened away to win for Sean Bowen and owners the Dove Coat Syndicate.

Another Irish trainer on the scoreboard was John McConnell from Stamullen, Co Meath. Go Another One gave Sean Bowen his first win of a double on the card from the start in the two-mile, four-furlong maiden hurdle.

Gordon Elliott had to settle for second spot here with Anytime Now. Westbank, in third, was prepped by Stuart Crawford.
