THE Ballydoyle treble was completed by Galileo’s daughter Bye Bye Baby in the Blandford Bloodstock Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over seven furlongs.

She won as an 11/10 favourite from a top yard should, leading from the start under Ryan Moore and passing the post two lengths ahead of Roger Varian’s Altyn Orda, who moved up menacingly at one stage. The others were well beaten.

Bye Bye Baby emphasised how far most British stables have to go to challenge Ballydoyle at the highest level – something which may change now that Sheikh Mohammed has changed policy where Galileo is concerned.

By no means top-class herself, Bye Bye Baby tried a Group 3 at the Curragh, finishing fourth of seven, and failed narrowly in a maiden last time. Yet here she won by two lengths and five in a contest attracting several contenders from prestigious stables.

MOORE’S TREBLE

Following Ryan Moore when he rides for ‘outside’ stables can be very profitable and Roger Charlton booked him for 5/1 favourite Makzeem in the closing seven-furlong handicap.

Inclined to wander and lose his chance in a red-hot handicap at Ascot last time, Makzeem had his mind made up for him by the former champion, who brought him stands’ side, produced him a furlong out and went away to beat Ice Lord by over three lengths.

A comfortable win in a competitive affair like this sometimes spells the end of a handicapping career.

Owner David Deer was considering Ascot today for the half-brother to his top-class performer Al Kazeem
