AIDAN and Joseph O’Brien are responsible for 10 of 17 horses who went into quarantine on Thursday, ahead of travelling to Australia for Spring Carnival targets.

The 10 horses will go into quarantine in Tipperary, while the seven others, all trained in Britain and including last year’s Melbourne Cup winner Cross Counter, will enter quarantine in Newmarket.

Il Paradiso, Magic Wand and Southern France, who will go into training with Ciaron Maher and David Eustace when landing in Australia, are among Aidan O’Brien’s contingent. Ten Sovereigns is also set to travel but will go straight to Sydney, where he will be housed at Canterbury racecourse ahead of the Everest Stakes.

The Lloyd Williams-owned Master Of Reality, Twilight Payment and Latrobe are among Joseph’s horses heading down under, and they will also be joined by Downdraft, who runs in the colours of Australian owners OTI Racing.

Nature’s Everest dream still alive

Moir Stakes (Group 1)

NATURE Strip boosted his prospect of gaining an invite to the Everest Stakes with a heart-stopping performance to take the Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley yesterday.

Chris Waller’s five-year-old, ridden by James McDonald, burst into the lead from a favourable low draw to lead through the first half of the race. He looked set to win comfortably but was clinging on when outsider Miss Leonidas lunged at him late on.

“I don’t think 1200 metres is a problem,” Waller told Racing.com, looking ahead to The Everest.

“I’d say we’ll just see how it unfolds over the next few days. If he doesn’t get an invite to The Everest, I guess the Schillaci is the logical choice but there are plenty of options this time of year.”
