SKY RACING ROSEHILL

GUINEAS (GROUP 1)

THE New Zealand Derby winner Gingernuts continued his stellar form on Saturday with a two-length win in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas over 2,000 metres.

“He jumped slow and got a bit of a squeeze but he got into a nice rhythm throughout the race and I knew I had a fit horse under me,” said jockey Opie Bosson.

The Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards-trained Iffraaj gelding defeated a pair of So You Think colts, Inference and So Si Bon, with that trio likely to clash again in the Australian Derby in two weeks.

RUSSIAN REVOLUTION

Beaten just once in six starts, the Snitzel colt Russian Revolution landed a maiden Group 1 in Saturday’s The Galaxy over 1,100 metres at Rosehill. Allocated 51kg under the races handicap conditions, Russian Revolution got up in the dying stages to edge out his stablemate, the Snitzel gelding Redzeal, ahead of the Dubawi gelding Jungle Edge.

“He showed a lot last prep,” said jockey Kerrin McEvoy.

“A Group 2 winner against some good quality colts, wasn’t beaten far in the Coolmore and, fair play to (co-trainers) Peter and Paul (Snowden), they delivered him here first-up against older horses. The horse dug deep, his star is on the rise that is for sure.”
