THE Iroquois Steeplechase this evening lost its main attraction when Stayer’s Hurdle winner Nichols Canyon was injured on the trip from Willie Mullins’ yard to the Tennessee oval.

While losing Nichols Canyon is a blow, Irish-breds could have a banner day as Yellow Mountain, Dai Bando, Classic Art, Laser Light, Macnicholson, Show Court, Royal Caviar, For Goodness Sake, Sarah Joyce, Dark Gemini, Demonstration, Henry San, Two’s Company and Scorpiancer line up on the seven-race card. Scorpiancer, winner of the Grade 3 Temple Gwathmey in his most recent start, takes on 2015 champion Dawalan, Grade 1 winner Mr. Hot Stuff, novice stakes winner Martini Brother and former British-based jumpers Hinterland and Andi’amu in the three-mile Iroquois.

One this is certain, an Irish-bred jockey will win the feature as Sean McDermott, Jack Doyle, Paddy Young, Kieran Norris, Darren Nagle and Willie McCarthy accept assignments on the six runners in the $200,000 stakes.
