CHAD Brown launched an Irish-bred, a British-bred and an American-bred at the $1 million Belmont Oaks.
At the end of the turf stakes races, it looked like the winner’s podium of the Olympics as Kentucky-bred New Money Honey bested Irish-bred Sistercharlie, and British-bred Uni, both making their stateside debuts after promising careers in France.
Owned by e Five Racing Thoroughbreds, New Money Honey improved her career mark to four-for-six, delivering her second Grade 1 stakes race score to go along with the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Javier Castellano placed the daughter of Medaglia d’Oro in a perfect spot, outside in fourth before leading a brigade of closers to oust her stablemate by a diminishing neck. Irish raider Key To My Heart faltered to finish last for Aidan O’Brien.
Brown isn’t planning another clash, at least for a while.
“They all ran terrific, the winner got position early, and they were moving along pretty good. Javier just backed off a little bit and had first run. My other two horses were two first-time Euros, they broke a little slow and were pretty far back,” Brown said.
“They look like they’re going to have outstanding careers as well. I haven’t really planned beyond this race, actually they’ll probably all go in different directions.”
