THE decision of the McCracken brothers Craig and Martin, and their father Cecil, to switch from breeding National Hunt horses to flat stock has quickly paid off with the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Best Solution set to represent the Dromore enterprise in today’s Derby at Epsom.

Due to be partnered by Pat Cosgrave (one of the many cousins of Christopher who is mentioned elsewhere in this page), the three-year-old Kodiac colt has won three of his nine races, most recently landing the Listed Betfred Derby Trial at Lingfield over an extended mile and three furlongs. Best Solution, who is the second of just three recorded foals out of the Kingmambo mare Al Andalyya, has career earnings to date of £158,492.
