EQUINE physiotherapist Sharon Kelly will be at the Route Hunt point-to-point this afternoon in Portrush where Bobowen, who she owns in partnership with trainer Caroline McCaldin, is one of 10 entries in the Royal Court Hotel open.

The 11-year-old Bob Back gelding was third of three finishers at Loughanmore earlier in the month but Sharon is hoping for a much improved performance on this occasion. He won’t find this task anyway easier though as also entered are Sabremont, who finished second at the East Antrim fixture, and Sizing Coal who is returning to the point-to-point sphere for the first time since landing his maiden at Borris House in March 2013.

However, no matter how Bobowen runs, Kelly will probably still be smiling as last weekend one of her former charges won a silver medal in the six-year-old section of the world breeding championships for young event horses at Le Lion d’Angers in western France.

Bred in Co Tyrone by Ken Thompson and called Aaroch when owned by Sharon and subsequently Ballygowan young horse producer Emma Jackson, the 2011 Lougherne Cashell gelding is now named Bob Chaplin and is ridden for Australia by Paul Tapner who rates the grey very highly.

Sharon has two sport horses for next year. Premier Charlie, a 2013 Touchdown gelding who, ridden by Janie Cairns, has had four educational outings in EI90 events. This bay was bred in Keady by Dominic Rice out of a thoroughbred mare by Oscar. Kelly’s three-year-old is by the thoroughbred stallion Golden Lariat.
