Owner of Hurricane Fly passes away

GEORGE Creighton, joint-owner with Rose Boyd of Hurricane Fly, died peacefully on Monday week last, September 23rd.

The Belfast owner was retired from the construction industry during most of the career of Hurricane Fly and thus was present when the Willie Mullins-trained Montjeu gelding recorded the majority of his 22 Grade 1 wins.

More recently, Creighton’s blue and green colours were carried to success by the Mullins-trained trio of Coquin Mans, Asthuria and Timi Roli. He liked nothing more than to visit Frank and Rose Boyd at Rademon and go out in the fields with the mares and foals.

George, who was predeceased by his wife Nell, is survived by his daughter Lynne and sons Andrew and George with the last-named saying that, right to the end, his father was hoping to find another champion.

George Creighton’s funeral service was held at Roselawn Crematorium. Our sincere condolences are extended to his family and friends.
