MANY congratulations to Oisin Orr on being crowned champion apprentice for the 2017 flat season at Naas.

From Rathmullan, Co Donegal, Oisin partnered 20 winners in his third full season to take the title.

The 20-year-old started off with Joanna Morgan, has been apprenticed to Eddie Lynam for whom he rode three winners this season. His agent, Kevin O’Ryan, also secured multiple winning rides on horses trained by Tony Martin and David Marnane.

Oisin recorded 33 victories on the pony racing circuit, many on beaches, so this year he was delighted to ride his first winner at Laytown, Coreczka.

Among the large support group at Naas were Oisin’s father Raymond and stepmother Rachel, the champion’s brother Conor, who works with Meath trainer Jack Davison, sister Emma, who works with Kilkenny show jumper Ger O’Neill and the youngest member of the family, Eoin, who has no interest in horses.
