Multi-tasking at Glenpatrick

THERE were a few racing people at the one-day event hosted by the Megahey family at Glenpatrick last Saturday including Alan Buchanan who was call-up steward for the day at the show jumping ring.

Still nursing the injuries he received at Broughshane when newcomer Ballyart fell two out in the four-year-old maiden, Johnny Creswell hopes to be back to full health shortly. Over the summer, he plans to break horses at his father’s farm in Lifford, on which a couple of horse and pony meetings take place each season.

Downpatrick racecourse manager Richard Lyttle will be delighted to learn that Phillip McLean was doing his best to promote the track.

Phillip, whose many, many roles include that of multi factotum at Downpatrick, handed out copies of the racecourse’s 2017 colour brochure to anyone he thought might be interested. He also made sure there was one in the control unit and, whenever there was a lull in proceedings, commentator, Paul Nolan, drew attention to the ‘Two Days Of Fun’ on Saturday and Sunday, June 17th and 18th.

Philip’s job at Glenpatrick was to collect the results sheets from all the cross-country fence stewards. He was filling in for Ronnie Beggs whose daughter Amy was marrying Ben McKnight from Waringstown.
