IT was good to see John Woods saddle a winner at Down Royal when owner Philip White had the added pleasure of being breeder of The White Volcano who landed the extended three-mile handicap hurdle for the Woods yard.

Ridden on the Friday by Conor Maxwell, The White Volcano won a five-year-old geldings’ maiden on his third start at Loughanmore last October when, partnered by Jimmy O’Rourke, he beat Some Response by 10 lengths.

The Wexford amateur was also on board the bay when, next time out, he finished third in early December in a winners of one at Moira.

The White Volvano was having his fifth run over hurdles at Down Royal where, following a poor performance the previous time at Downpatrick, he was allowed off at 16/1. He is yet another winner for September Storm and is out of a Taipan mare.

ORR WIN

Donegal’s Conor Orr, older brother of champion apprentice Oisin, rode his first winner since returning from Britain when the Henry de Bromhead-trained One In All In landed the opening Proparamedics Maiden Hurdle at odds of 33/1.

This short-head success in the colour of Chris Jones was actually the first in this country for 22-year-old Orr who partnered seven winners on the track across the water and 11 between the flags. Before leaving for Britain where he was based with Evan Williams, he worked here with Joanna Morgan and Shane Donohoe.
