ON his return to racing in the United Arab Emirates, it didn’t take Pat Cosgrave long to resume winning ways with two single successes at Al Ain in less than a week for Musabbeh al Mheiri and a handicap double at Meydan last Saturday and another at Meydan on Thursday.

Al Mheiri supplied the Co Down-born jockey with his first winner on Saturday, Shoreditch who was scoring for the second time in three starts and Cosgrave doubled up on the year older Baroot who is trained by South Africa’s Mike de Kock. Both British-bred horses are by Dubawi.

There were four Irish-breds among the first five home in the 10-furlong handicap at Meydan the previous Thursday, the winner being Elhaame who is trained by Saeed bin Suroor for Godolphin.

The seven-year-old Acclamation gelding was bred in Northern Ireland by Max Ervine out of Gold Hush (by Seeking The Gold), who is also dam of two other winners. From the family of Snow Bride (dam of Lammtarra among others), Gold Hush had a filly last year by Slade Power.

Now the winner of seven races, Elhaame picked up over £85,000 for this success which has brought his career earnings over the £225,000 mark.
