THE seven-year-old Generous gelding Generous Pet brought up a four-timer over timber when landing the two and a half mile handicap hurdle at Sedgefield on Tuesday.
Ridden in all four races by Joe Colliver and trained in Cumbria by Ken Slack, the chestnut ran in six Northern region point-to-points last season in the colours of his Ballymena breeder Roy McGaw with a best-placed finish of fourth last time out at Necarne.
On that occasion, he was beaten 20 and a half lengths by the David Broad-trained winner, Bringerofthedawn, who landed the two-mile, five-furlong maiden hurdle at Ballinrobe last Friday evening.
Generous Pet is the last of 12 foals out of the unraced Orchestra mare Sarahs Music, whose best progeny has been the Montelimar mare Howaya Pet, the winner of seven races, including a Grade 3 chase, and three point-to-points.
The deceased Generous was once part of the Scarvagh Stud roster of stallions but it was one of his British-bred daughters, Indian Stream, who credited Alfred Buller with a win as breeder last week when scoring over fences.
The seven-year-old, who is trained by Neil Mulholland, landed the Listed EBF/Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Mares’ Novices’ Chase Finale (Handicap) at Cheltenham last Thursday by eight lengths under Noel Fehily. The chesnut had last run at Southwell in September when she also visited the winners’ enclosure.
Indian Stream is the fourth of just five foals out of the unraced Zaffaran mare Zaffarimbi, an own-sister to Santabless.
Her only other foal to be named was the 2006 Beauchamp King gelding Shrewd Investment, the winner of two point-to-points and two hunters’ chases.
Buller’s brother-in-law, Hugh Suffern, also bred a winner at Cheltenham last Thursday in the Fergal O’Brien-trained Perfect Candidate who was scoring at the track for the second time this year. The nine-year-old gelding by the also deceased Winged Love is out of the Insan mare Dansana who too had just five foals registered with Weatherbys but also one by Connemara Builder’s Secret.
SUCCESSFUL DEBUT
On Friday evening, Buller’s name appeared as breeder of First Drift who made a successful racecourse debut for the Ben Case yard when landing the bumper at Southwell.
Another by Generous, the five-year-old, who won a Kirkistown maiden just last month for the Crawford brothers, is the third of seven foals out of the unraced Supreme Leader mare Supreme Cove.
Her first was the 2006 Deploy gelding Destroyer Deployed who was sent out by Buller to finish third in a Taylorstown maiden in October 2010 on his only start between the flags before landing two bumpers, a hurdle and a beginners’ chase in England. He was second in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper (Grade 1) at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival. This is the family of Mixed Blends, Baily Breeze and Baily Mist.
